Vincent George's wife gives up petrol pump
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, MAY 11. Ms. Lilly George, wife of Mr. Vincent George,
Private Secretary to the Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi,
has informed the Petroleum Ministry that she has given up the
idea of operating a petrol pump. The dealership had been allotted
to her on ``compassionate grounds'' in 1991. In a letter to the
Ministry, Ms. George whose allotment had created a controversy,
said she did not have any present interest or intention in
running the dealership.
The Petroleum Minister, Mr. Ram Naik, said the letter had been
received in response to queries from the Ministry on whether the
``compassionate grounds'' still existed. However, the letter did
not mention the issue of compassionate grounds and had been
received two months after the queries were initiated. On whether
the issue was now closed, Mr. Naik told newspersons that this
would be so only after the site was allotted to a Kargil widow.
