Gill unhappy over rejection of suggestions
NEW DELHI, MAY 11. The Chief Election Commissioner, Dr. M. S.
Gill, has regretted that his suggestion for proxy voting for the
armed forces and others who now cast their vote by postal ballot
and imposition of President's rule in a State before Assembly
elections are yet to be accepted by all political parties.
Dr. Gill, who is retiring next month, said in a TV interview that
he had been pleading for proxy voting as ballot papers for
eligible persons did not reach in time for the consideration of
the concerned election authorities. He had also been pleading for
President's rule in a State three months before it went to the
polls to ensure free and fair elections so that the ruling
parties would not take any undue advantage.
