DMK front 'a flock of betrayers'

By S. Vijay Kumar

MADURAI, MAY 8. The DMK front in Tamil Nadu was a `flock of betrayers', the CPI national secretary, Mr. D. Raja, said today.

Addressing a press conference here, he accused the Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, of betraying Periyar's self- respect theory, ideals of rationalism and policies of Dravidian Movement by joining hands with the communal BJP for power.

He said the Puthiya Tamizhagam and the DPI parties had also betrayed the principles of Dr. Ambedkar by aligning with the communal forces in the State.

The Assembly elections would pave way for a `change in guard' in Tamil Nadu, he said and expressed confidence that the AIADMK Chief, Ms. Jayalalitha, would garner adequate `numbers' to form the government. In the event of a hung Assembly, the CPI would help the AIADMK to form the government, he said.

Describing the rejection of Ms. Jayalalitha's nomination papers as a `legal-constitutional problem', he decried the Election Commission's norms which denied equality opportunity to all before law.

He alleged that the BJP-led government at the Centre was ruining the country by pursuing `disastrous economic policies'. The disinvestment policy was a virtual sell-out of national assets which the country had built over the years. The WTO policies and new exim policy would affect the agricultural sector and decelerate the growth of Small Scale Industries, he noted.
