By Our Special Correspondent

PERAMBALUR, MAY 8. Perambalur police today filed cases against Mr. R. Devarajan, DMK MLA, Mr. K. Rajaram, district panchayat council chairman, Mr. N. Natarajan, town DMK secretary, Mr. S. Vallabhan, DMK candidate for the Perambalur constituency, and 45 others for violation of the poll code.

It is stated that the DMK men were found canvassing near Thuraimangalam around 7 pm even though the campaign ended at 4 pm. Mr. Chathopadhaya, election observer, who noticed them canvassing, alerted the police who registered cases.

Our Tiruchi Staff Reporter reports:

Thirteen members of the Revolutionary Youth and Students Front, an affiliate organisation of the People's Arts and Literary Association (PALA), were arrested when they took out a procession after 4 pm in the city.

Police said they raised slogans, appealing to the electorate to boycott the elections. The procession which started from Tharanallur, was stopped near Uppuparai and participants were remanded to custody.

Meanwhile, about 1,000 police personnel, drawn from the city police and the central para military forces, staged a flag march as a confidence building measure in view of the Assembly elections.

Mr. K. Subbaiah, Inspector General of Police (L&O), led the flag march from Palakkarai to the Anna Statue. Mr. J. K. Tripathy, DIG, Tiruchi Range, and other senior police officials also participated in the march.
