'Disqualified person cannot be CM: Advani
By Our Staff Reporter
MAYILADUTHURAI, MAY 8. A person who is disqualified to become a
MLA cannot become the leader of a party in a Legislative
Assembly, the Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani has said.
Addressing an election meeting here on Tuesday, he said that in
order to contest the election a person should be an Indian
national and 25 years old. Further, he or she should not have
been disqualified from contesting the election. In such
circumstances, how could a teenager or a foreigner be nominated
as a Chief Minister for six months, Mr.Advani said. Dismissing
reports that the AIADMK general secretary, Ms. Jayalalitha could
be nominated as the Chief Minister if her party/alliance gets a
majority as hypothetical, Mr. Advani said there was no need for a
debate on this issue.
Categorically stating that Ms. Jayalalitha would not get the
majority, the Home Minister said he was looking forward to a
renewed mandate in favour of the DMK.
