A novel school to produce politicians

RANCHI, MAY 6. Do not get dismayed by lack of job opportunities; a novel school here is grooming people to become political leaders.

If you thought it was a cynical response to the prevailing political scenario, you are mistaken. For, the Netagiri Vidyalaya (School of Leadership) already has about 30 students on its roll including office-bearers of the youth wing of a major political party.

A brain-child of Mr. Raj Ranjan, brother of a well- known Congress leader of the region, Mr. Gyan Ranjan, the school offers a three-month crash course in subjects ranging from the Constitution, history to sociology with classes held four days a week.

It familiarises the aspirants with different shades of political thought without forcing a choice on them.

The books prescribed include Dale Carnege on leadership, J. Maurur on the art of effective communication, Aurbindo's `The basics of Indian culture,' Arun Shourie's `A Secular Agenda' to Vikas Kumar Jha's `Rajniti Ka Apradhikaran'

(criminalisation of politics).

Describing the response as overwhelming, Mr. Ranjan says that from his barber Vakil Ahmed to a computer professional Saurav Sinha, many have expressed desire to join the course.

The Youth Congress general secretary, Mr. Yunus Ahmed Ansari, is all praise for the course saying `it helps us to interact better with the people.' The Youth Congress secretary, Mr. Ajay Rai, is sharing the desk with him to excel him in the art of communication.
