Laloo spreading his wings to sports
PATNA, MAY 3. The RJD president, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, is all
set to spread his wings, it is not peculiar for him to set out to
find a place for his party in the West Bengal Assembly, being
well ensconced in Bihar's political spectrum. It is the desire to
enter the world of sports that is more in the news currently.
Some time ago, Mr. Yadav registered himself as a lawyer, but one
never heard much of it later. But that might not be the case with
respect to his new found love of joining the hands of Priya
Ranjan Das Munshi, Madhavrao Scindia and Suresh Kalmadi, all of
whom are pursuing a double avocation, taking a keen interest in
sports along with their political ceiling.
Mr. Yadav yearns to give a new fillip to cricket in the State,
perhaps egged on by the game played on his lawns by his children
and their friends, Mr. Yadav intends to become the President of
the Bihar Cricket Association, the governing body for cricket in
the State.
Mr. Yadav has filed the nomination papers and if none else enters
the fray by May 6, the last date for filing of nominations, his
election to the post is likely to be declared the same day.
Though the State has little to boast in the sphere of cricket,
the office-bearers of the BCA recalled the contribution of Mr.
Yadav in successfully conducting the World Cup fixture between
Kenya and Zimbabwe here in 1996 which was almost washed away by
heavy rains.
