DDA members seek probe

NEW DELHI, MAY 2. Two Members of the Delhi Development Authority have demanded an inquiry by the Central Bureau of Investigation into the alleged large-scale malpractices and corruption in its Building Department.

In a meeting with the DDA Vice-Chairman, Mr. P.K. Hota, here today, the members, Mr. Mahabal Mishra from the Congress(I) and Mr. Puran Chand Yogi from the BJP, demanded that immediate action be taken against the officials responsible for such a state of affairs in the department.

They alleged that at several places in the Capital, officials of the Building Department, in collision with the building mafia had violated rules and regulations.

``How can a building plan be sanctioned for a plot worth crores in Paharganj which was meant for a parking lot?'' asked Mr. Mishra.

``We also urged Mr. Hota to transfer Director of Building Department till investigations related to all corruption cases was over,'' Mr. Yogi said. ``He assures us that adequate and strict action would be taken against all those officials found to be involved in any corruption case,'' he added.

Both the Authority members said that they will soon meet the Delhi Lieutenant-Governor, Mr. Vijai Kapoor, in this regard and press for an CBI inquiry on this issue.
