Irate passengers detain train

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, MAY 2.The Tirunelveli-bound Nellai Express was detained by irate passengers of the first AC compartment at Melmaruvathur last night, protesting the failure of AC in their compartment.

According to Southern Railway sources, the AC did not function even at the time of departure from Chennai Egmore. As railway authorities did not restore the facility, the passengers stopped the train at Melmaruvathur, pulling the alarm chain.

They allowed the train to depart only after the AC was restored. The train suffered a detention about 90 minutes.
