S. Railway regrets inconvenience

By Our Staff Reporter

COIMBATORE, MAY 2. The Southern Railway has expressed `deep regrets' for the inconvenience caused to the passengers of a Coimbatore-Chennai summer special No. 617 on April 28.

In a release issued here, the Divisional Railway Manager, Palakkad, Mr. P. Rajamoni said there was a shortage of two reserved vacuum braked coaches on that day which resulted in the confusion and the passengers were accommodated in the available coaches including an AC coach. Those, who wanted to cancel their tickets, were given full refund.

Due to a change in the air brake system, there was shortage of coaches with vacuum brake.

Mr. Rajamoni described as baseless the allegations that the missing coaches were attached to Cheran Express to accommodate those accompanying the Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, after an election campaign.
