BALCO unions to meet tomorrow
By Our Staff Correspondent
RAIPUR, MAY 2. The trade unions of employees of the Bharat
Aluminium Company Limited (BALCO) would meet on May 4 to decide
the further course of action in the wake of the Supreme Court
judgement even though five of the seven trade union leaders today
expressed their desire to resume work.
The core committee of the Balco Bachhao Samyukt Sangharsh Samiti
met here today and decided to continue with the strike until they
received the copy of the Supreme Court judgement. The next
meeting is scheduled for May 4, when the final decision will be
taken.
In today's meeting barring the AITUC and the CITU, the five
striking unions had expressed their desire to resume duties.
However, these two unions took a hard stand.
In another important development, the State Industries Minister,
Mr. Mahendra Karma, today appealed to the striking unions to join
work in the national interest. He said it would also be in the
interest of the workers if the plant was re- started.
