Sonia unlikely to campaign in Tamil Nadu

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, MAY 2. The Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, is unlikely to campaign in Tamil Nadu during the Assembly elections.

According to the schedule drawn up by her poll managers, Ms. Gandhi will be in Pondicherry on May 8, the last day of the campaign, but it is reliably learnt that she may skip campaigning in Tamil Nadu.

Ms. Gandhi has already completed the first round of her campaign having spent two days each in Assam and Kerala. From tomorrow she will begin her second leg of the campaign in West Bengal, where she is slated to campaign jointly in a number of places with the Trinamool Congress chief, Ms. Mamata Banerjee. She will return to the capital on Friday night and fly off again to Kerala on May 5 for a day-long visit.

Though at the moment she has a day off on Sunday May 6, party sources indicate that she may decide to devote yet another day to Assam or West Bengal.
