Voters cannot join queue after 4 p.m.

CHENNAI, APRIL 30. Polling for the Assembly elections on May 10 will begin at 7 a.m and close at 4 p.m., as specified by the Election Commission. However, all electors present at the polling station at or before 4 p.m., will be allowed to cast their votes.

Slips signed by the presiding officer and serially numbered will be distributed to all electors standing in the queue and waiting to vote at the time of closing, i.e. at 4 p.m. The slips will be issued starting from the tail-end to ensure that new voters do not join the queue after 4 p.m, says an official release from the Chief Electoral Officer.

Although this specific provision was available, the CEO urged the voters to cast their votes in the morning hours to avoid standing in the long queue in the evening hours.
