It is difficult to work with AIADMK: Naidu

By Our Staff Reporter

THANJAVUR, APRIL 30. The verdict of the people in the Assembly elections in five States which go to the polls on May 10 will have no consequence on the national political scene, according to Mr. Venkaiah Naidu, Union Minister for Rural Development.

He told presspersons at Kumbakonam that only local issues were discussed in this election. Political situation was different in each State. The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) partners were strong in Tamil Nadu and Assam. In Kerala and West Bengal, the fight was between the Congress and Communist fronts.

An irony was that the CPI and the CPI(M) supported the Congress in Tamil Nadu and opposed it in Kerala. Similarly the TMC and the Congress supported the AIADMK and the PMK in Tamil Nadu but opposed them in Pondicherry, Mr. Naidu said.

He said it was difficult for any party to work with the AIADMK. Almost all parties-Congress, Communists and the Tamil Maanila Congress-in the AIADMK front were insulted by Ms. Jayalalitha. Mr. P. Chidambaram, former Union Minister, acted wisely and moved out of the AIADMK alliance. But the TMC led by Mr. G. K. Moopanar, had taken a suicidal path.

Mr Naidu described the TMC as a ``watch dog that will not bark and bite but will remain as a watching dog only''.

He said ``I have lot of respects for Mr. Moopanar. He is one of the decent politicians. But TMC watch dog is now tied to a pole. It has no flesh or meat in its body. It can't bark or bite before the mighty AIADMK.

Earlier Mr. Moopanar said he would bring Kamaraj rule. Now he speaks of neither Kamaraj rule nor Ramaraj but he wants only Ammaraj''.

Later campaigning for Mr. Ko. Si. Mani, Local Administration Minister, DMK candidate for Kumbakonam near the Mahamaham tank, Mr. Naidu described the elections as a battle between dharma and adharma, good governance and bad governance and good alliance and bad alliance.
