Kargil revisited?

Sir, - The brutal torture and mutilation of our BSF personnel by the Bangladesh Rifles is shocking. Both countries have said that the crisis was settled within 48 hours but who will improve the morale of our security personnel?

Let us not sacrifice our soldiers in order to promote ourselves as a `peace-loving' nation.

G.L. Reddy,

Bangalore

Sir, - Our neighbours must learn to respect the sovereignty of India. Defence authorities should remember that vigilance on the eastern border should not be neglected. India should undertake fencing of boundaries on a large scale to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.

Kargil, Tehelka and the Bangladesh intrusion have once again proved intelligence failure. The Bangladesh Government should pay compensation to the families of the soldiers killed.

Sushil Mehra,

Bangalore
