Minor fire mishap at LIC building
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, APRIL 23. There was a flutter at the LIC building on
Anna Salai following a minor fire accident on the ninth floor
today. Fire service tenders rushed to the spot, however the staff
managed to douse the flames using extinguishers.
The Director of Fire Service, Mr. S. Ramani, who visited the
spot, said the fire was noticed in the afternoon and the presence
of mind of the staff had prevented it from spreading.
Preliminary investigation revealed that it was caused by a short
circuit and a junction box was damaged, he said. However, the
incident had led to panic for sometime in the multi-storeyed
complex and most of the staff had rushed to safety.
Mr. Ramani also inspected the fire exit and suggested some
modifications to the existing system.
A fire engine waits outside LIC Building on Monday as a
precautionary measure.
