Awards for KHB, RGRHC and Nirmiti Kendra
By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, APRIL 23. The Karnataka Housing Board (KHB), the Rajiv
Gandhi Rural Housing Corporation (RGRHC) and a Nirmiti Kendra in
the State have bagged four awards for commendable performance,
given by the Housing and Urban Development Corporation (HUDCO) on
the occasion of its annual day.
The Minister for Housing, Mr. Qamar-ul-Islam, told presspersons
here on Monday that the recognition bestowed on the housing
agencies in the State was an indicator of the good work being
done by the Government in the field of housing.
The Housing Board, some years ago, was on the verge of closure
owing to financial bankruptcy, and the Rajiv Gandhi Housing
Corporation is a relatively new organisation formed for
constructing houses for the poor under various schemes. The
awards have made the Government proud.
The Minister said that the Housing Board had been given the award
for good financial management and implementation of a
restructuring plan that had given a new lease of life to the
Housing Board. The Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation, in the first
year of formation, had constructed 1.5 lakh houses out of a
target of two lakh houses.
The Commissioner of the Housing Board, Mr. Arvind Jadhav, and the
Managing Director of the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation, Mr. N.
Sivasailam, would receive the awards from the Union Minister for
Urban Development and Poverty Alleviation, Mr. Jagmohan, at a
function to be held in New Delhi on Wednesday. The Nirmiti Kendra
at Raichur and Koppal had also bagged awards for construction of
houses for the poor in their respective areas.
Mr. Islam, who is also overseeing his party's preparations for
the election to the Gulbarga City Municipal Corporation, said Mr.
Zaheer Ahmed of the Congress had unanimously won the election.
The Congress was confident of bagging at least 40 seats in the
Gulbarga Corporation, he added.
