4 hurt in attack on APHC office
SRINAGAR, APRIL 23. A grenade blast rocked the headquarters of
the 23- member All-Party Hurriyat Conference at Rajbagh here
today as the APHC leaders met to firm up a response to the
Centre's offer of talks with all Kashmiri groups. Four persons
were injured the explosion caused when three scooter-borne youths
hurled a grenade into the complex.
Later, a visibly upset APHC chairman, Mr. Abdul Ghani Bhat, said,
``the Hurriyat Conference cannot be bogged down by grenade
attacks nor will the designs of some vested interests be allowed
to succeed.''
Two little-known militant outfits - Mujahideen-e-Haq and Al-Qasas
- separately claimed responsibility for the attack expressing
their opposition to the Centre's offer.
Decision on Thursday
The Hurriyat executive council which met for five hours behind
close doors failed to take a decision on the offer of talks.
Refusing to reveal what transpired at the meeting. Mr. Bhat said,
``we have heard the views and opinion of the executive council -
the highest decision making body of the alliance parties - and
will meet shortly to take a final decision. A top source in the
APHC later said the executive would meet again on Thursday.
