Nirupama and Manisha win title
HO CHI MINH CITY, APRIL 22. The top-seeded Nirupama Vaidyanathan
and Manisha Malhotra won the title with a 6-4, 7-5 victory over
the second- seeded Leanne Baker and Shelley Stephens of New
Zealand in the $ 25,000 ITF women's circuit tennis tournament
here on Sunday.
The title was worth 22 WTA points and 1200 dollars for the Indian
pair.
Earlier in the singles semifinal, the third-seeded Nirupama
missed two matchpoints at 5-4 in the decider, in going down 6-4,
3-6, 6-7 (3-7) to the second-seeded Na Li of China.
The singles effort was worth 12 WTA points, including two quality
points, and $ 1100 for Nirupama, who will be competing in the US
from next week.
Manisha will be playing in Japan after a week's rest, as she
could not appear for the qualifying event in Seoul as per her
original schedule, thanks to her successful doubles run in
Vietnam.
