Sale of babies: Central probe urged
By Our Staff Correspondent
RAICHUR, APRIL 22. The Union Government should constitute a team
to investigate the reported sale of girl babies in Lambada tandas
of Gulbarga District, Mr. Basavaraj Patil Sedam, President of the
State BJP, said here today.
He told presspersons that although the BJP was satisfied with the
action initiated by the State Government in this regard, it
wanted the Government to go deeper into the episode to root out
such an ``inhuman'' act by some NGOs in Gulbarga District and in
Andhra Pradesh.
He suspected an ``international conspiracy'' behind the sale of
girl babies. The State Government did a commendable job in
investigating the case, he said and suggested it to go with
further details to arrest the persons and the NGOs involved in
the sale of babies to orphanages in the neighbouring State.
The culprits involved in the case should be nabbed, Mr. Sedam
said and added that if necessary, the Government should seek the
Centre's help.
Stating that more than 250 babies had been sold to many
orphanages in the neighbouring State, he said he had written to
the Centre and the BJP President had been informed about this.
Recently he held a detailed discussion with the president of the
Andhra Pradesh BJP unit, he added.
Depending on the report submitted by the team, the Centre could
take steps to hand over the case to the CBI, if necessary, Mr.
Sedam said.
