OU to introduce new course in dryland farming

HYDERABAD, APRIL 22. A new vocational degree course in dryland
farming would be introduced by the Osmania University at the P.G.
College of Science, Saifabad, from the coming academic year.
For this purpose, the college which is celebrating its Golden
Jubilee Year, is signing a memoranda of understanding with three
city-based institutions of higher learning and research, the
International Crops Research Institute for Semi-Arid Tropics
(ICRISAT), Central Research Institute for Dryland Agriculture
(CRIDA) and the Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University for
offering this course.
The MoU signing ceremony has been scheduled for April 25 in the
college premises. The Home Minister, Mr. T. Devender Goud, Dr.
Jill Lenne, Deputy Director General, ICRISAT, Dr. H.P. Singh,
Director, CRIDA, Dr. N. Srirama Reddy, Dean of Agriculture,
ANGRAU and Dr. P. Judson, Principal, Saifabad College, would be
present.
The B.Sc (dryland farming) course implies rainfed farming and the
course's aim is to prepare trained personnel for scientific
implementation of watershed-based agricultural programme for
achieving sustainable food and nutritional security, according to
a press release.
