Film Review: ''Jodi No. 1''
IF DAVID Dhawan is here, can Govinda be far behind? After all if
it takes two to tango, it also takes two to create a jugalbandi.
And two to create the formidable team of ``Coolie No. 1'' and
others in the numero uno series. And much to the relief of laugh
merchants, the duo is back. This time with Sanjay Dutt in tow,
creating magic, evoking full-throated laughter and redefining
Hindi cinema on buffoonery lines.
A humorous take-off on the Veeru-Jai duo of ``Sholay'', ``Jodi
No. 1'' has Dhawan doing what he is good at. That is make a film
with `Virar ka Chokra' after his experiment with Salman Khan and
Anil Kapoor yielded mixed returns. But missing is Karisma who had
almost become synonymous with the ribald industry. Instead, there
is scope for Twinkle Khanna - paired for the second time over
last year with Govinda after ``Joru ka Ghulam'' and Monica Bedi
who is more of a regular feature in gossip columns than on the
big screen. A tale of do-good petty crooks, ``Jodi No 1'' has
catchy music by Anand Raaj Anand and Himesh Reshmaiya, and the
song ``Ande ka Fanda'' is already a regular on all the countdown
shows. Pratik Joseph's number brings back memories of similar
songs in ``Chhote Sarkar'' and ``Gambler''. It is good, clean fun
with no strings attached.
