A guide for the bloodless

Those are moments of anxiety and worry. Life hangs precariously and could swing either way. What is wanted is blood, the elixir of life. Worse are the situations when the doctor rushes you to catch hold of a suitable blood donor even as some one very dear to you is battling for life at the hospital. Where to find the blood donor?

Some people seem to have given a thought for such situations and their efforts has seen the coming of a blood donors' directory. The Concern for Twin Cities will shortly release a Twin Cities Blood Donors' Directory, which is a compilation of details of some 5,000 good Samaritans who are willing to donate blood.

The database comes in alphabetical order and is also listed area wise and the directory will be available free of cost at nursing homes, hospitals, blood banks, pharmacists and health centres. ``It took us nine months to compile this database from direct mailers, advertisements and from voluntary organisations,'' says D. Ramachandram of the Concern for Twin Cities, which had developed the concept in association with the Lions Club International.

The directory is also going to have articles on various aspects of blood donation, myths and facts and news and views. If you are healthy and aged between 18 years and 45 years and willing to help some body battling for life by donating blood, then call 3211998 or 6666644 and ask for Ch. Sudhakar.
