Clicking on to fame and fortune

THE INFORMATION from Hollywood should be quite interesting for us here - should tell us who's making how much money. But that was just one juicy part of Tellyzoom.com that Sharat Kumar liked.

The new website's strength, he said at its launch, would be in packaging Hollywood trade information and in attracting foreign film industries to Indian talent and Chennai's film techies. And he would have liked a better picture of his on Tellyzoom's pages.

The website's real plus is its `aspirants' section that will showcase Indian talent, leveraging the Net's global reach and easy accessibility. Potential stars have to do pay an annual Rs.2,000 to be discovered.

They should be able to get the actors, actresses, singers, music directors, script writers, directors, producers, and whoever they need, but without the help of video clippings. That will only come with broadband, said K P Sunil, who runs Tellyzoom.

Back to Hollywood. The website will provide information on all that is happening in Film Mecca including the latest in technology developments and even the lesser known films. What we get here is just the blockbusters; there are more experiments happening. While we feast on those tidbits, Indians can also keep tabs on opportunities available for them in Hollywood - just in case, someone's looking for an actress with a Chennai accent. There will also be a database on film-related courses in the US. Tellyzoom is aiming for more. In its second phase, not launched yet, the website will have a learning center offering tips from experts especially in screen writing, photography and editing.

Another page will list the greatest classics ever made both in English and Tamil. There will be video clippings, greater multi- media facilities and the latest technology. For now, the website seems an efficient trade guide and more. And according to Radhika, who launched Tellyzoom.com with Sharath Kumar, in an industry so haphazard, some organizing is finally coming in.
