No dearth of CNG supplies, says Naik

NEW DELHI, APRIL 19. There was no dearth of CNG supplies for Delhi, which was at 2,00,000 kgs per day on March 31 against the demand of 1,00,450 kgs per day, the Petroleum Minister, Mr. Ram Naik, told the Lok Sabha today.

The Minister said at present, 68 CNG outlets were operative in Delhi and two more would come up soon and work on eight other outlets was in progress. By September, as many as 140 outlets would be operative, he added.

Mr. Naik said there was need for upgrading the compressors at the dispensing retail outlets to accelerate quick delivery of the gas.

The Minister held the Delhi Government responsible for not taking asking Indraprastha Gas Ltd to take required steps in time in this regard.

Mr Naik. said the supply of CNG would remain restricted to Delhi and Mumbai for the time being because of short supply.

Running of public transport vehicles on both CNG and desulphurised diesel could help reduce the level of vehicular pollution in the Capital, he said.``Nowhere in the world the city transport is being run on CNG fuel alone.''
