Testing time for summer

THANKFULLY, THE exams are all over and done with. Or at least, they are nearly over or are going to be over. So why bother reading a column on `education' in the early summer of our vacation?

Because this story is about `higher education', because we all have to move ahead. eGurucool.com, an education portal has this year expanded its helpline to the students of 8th, 9th and 11th standards, providing special study modules for classes 9 to 12 and entrance examinations. But entrance exams for IIT, Medical entrance and CAT under their umbrella brand - Smart Study Programme - is the current attraction. The site has already offered interactive sessions with experts via chat on different subjects for school students.

Plus two students appearing for TNPCEE 2001 examinations can now evaluate their performance by taking the online practice tests, designed by Microcode Consultants, available at www.trialexam.com till April 23. These tests follow the TNPCEE pattern and have been designed so the students get instant evaluation, identification of correct answers and clarification of doubts by expert professors.

Students who wish to access the tests have to purchase a password, available in sealed envelopes at specified centres in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry. The password combinations are available at Rs. 40 for two passwords and Rs. 50 for three. Contact Microcode at 8212026/8251393.

More tests are available at www.pppindia.com/tnpcee. The online TNPCEE model examination from PPP Infotech, an internet company, has a bank of 800 questions, divided into subjects. It gives instant answers and score. This testing procedure comes in at a password fee of Rs.300 (contact tel: 3712988).

This last one is about tests too - testing foreign shores. Egmore is just the place to be in if you want to study in Australia. `Question Me' is an FAQ session for answers straight from Australia education experts.

Get passes from StudentConcepts.com and fill in your questions on the tear-off section. The questions can be posed to migration officers, scholarships advisors, alumni members or even bank officials. The most frequently asked questions - on visa procedures, admissions and employment opportunities - will be selected for the three- hour discussion session on education in Australia. For passes, contact: 4614219, 8207688.
