Bharti to offer cellular phones
NEW DELHI, APRIL 6. Bharti Teletech is planning to enter the
cellular handsets market by the middle of this year by
introducing phones under its 'Beetel' brand for which the company
has started negotiations for tie-up with a few foreign cell phone
manafucturers.
``The company is planning to introduce its brand of cellular
phones in India. The phones sourced from foreign manufacturers
would be sold under Bharti brandname," Mr. Rakesh Bharti Mittal,
managing director of Bharti Teletech, said here.
He said that the company was in the process of finalising an
agreement for sourcing mobile handsets, based on GSM technology
and added that the phones would be introduced in the Indian
markets by the middle of this year.
Mr. Mittal, however, declined to divulge details on the volume of
cellphones to be sourced during the first year. The company would
look at an aggressive pricing plan for Bharti cellphones in the
price-sensitive Indian market.
``Looking at the Indian market, we feel that the pricing of the
cellphones should be kept at a low level of about Rs. 4,000-5,000
initially," he said.
