Not a welcome trend
Sir, - The recent forays of the judicial authorities into what
must be deemed the executive domain are surely not welcome. It is
not the work of judges to suggest the location of industries, or
the number of vehicles on the road. Converting the Supreme Court
registry into a regional transport office could have been
avoided. Sometimes what is desirable is not administratively
feasible.
Ravinder Singh,
Karnal, Haryana
Sir, - In recent times the Supreme Court has put itself in
situations wherein it has appeared to be out of sync with the
realities of our dynamic polity. Perhaps in our zeal to find
solutions to every malady from the judiciary, we have denied it
the much needed measures that would make it suitable for the
rapidly changing polity of India. Contempt of court notice and
the like apparatuses are inadequate to deal with the crisis.
Widespread recourse to such measures will further entrench the
impression that our judiciary is clueless about the goings on in
today's India.
Kallol Bhattacharya,
New Delhi
