Ramadoss assurance to minorities

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 6. The PMK leader, Dr. S. Ramadoss, who was given a warm reception by the town Kazi, Mr. M. M. Houssain, at his residence here today assured that the PMK was committed to safeguarding the interests and welfare of the minorities.

He said he was not stating this because the Assembly election was round the corner. Poll might come and go but the PMK was basically committed to serving the Islamic community and the minorities as a whole, Dr. Ramadoss said.

The AIADMK-PMK government that would come to power with the full cooperation of the people here would leave no stone unturned to raise the lot of the minorities, he said. He had always shared the joys and sorrows of the Islamic community and all the grievances listed out in the petition given to him by the town Kazi and others would be considered by the next PMK-led government.

He also told freedom fighters who had earlier pleaded for hike in the monthly pension to bring it on par with the amount available in Tamil Nadu that the tyagis would be definitely honoured by the AIADMK-PMK government likely to be formed after the polls.

Dr. Ramadoss appealed to the Islamic community to drop its proposal to boycott the polls as no effort would be spared to end their grievances particularly revamping the Wakf Board.

The town Kazi said that a detailed memorandum had been presented by a delegation of the Islamic community to the Lt. Governor to intervene and save the properties of the Wakf Board. He hoped that the PMK leader would help save the properties of the board.
