Poor regulation of traffic
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, APRIL 6. Traffic on Poonamalle High Road around Central
railway station this morning was thrown out of gear with the
traffic police failing to regulate diversion of vehicles
effectively.
A procession was taken out via Poonamallee High Road to mark
2600th birth anniversary of Baghwan Mahaveer and it culminated at
Indoor Stadium in Periamet, close to the Central station.
Barricades were put up at the junction of Pallavan Salai-Anna
Salai and Poonamallee High Road-Muthuswamy Iyer bridge so that
vehicles did not go near the station. Some vehicles managed to
get around the hurdle and use Poonnamallee High Road.
In fact, the traffic police personnel were so rigid that they did
not allow a motorist to take a person with injuries to the
Government General Hospital. Some motorists argued with the
police that they were not informed about the diversion, before
they reached the two points.
Commuters were among the worst-hit. Though buses going via
Poonamallee High Road were diverted, scores of people were seen
waiting at the bus stop near the G.H., apparently having no idea
about the diversion.
