Beware pro-LTTE parties: Swamy
By Our Staff Reporter
MADURAI, APRIL 6. The Janata Party president, Dr. Subramanian
Swamy, today warned that the LTTE, through its political
supporters, was trying to usurp power in Tamil Nadu and
Pondicherry, after the Assembly polls.
Dr. Swamy, talking to mediapersons here, said the people must be
cautious of the ulterior motives of the pro-LTTE political
parties in the State. By aligning her party with the PMK and the
Dravidar Kazhagam, the Congress president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, had
``betrayed'' the memory of Rajiv Gandhi, he said.
Claiming that the AIADMK supremo, Ms. Jayalalitha, would not be
able to contest, Dr. Swamy said he would seek permission to
intervene if she went in for appeal against her conviction in the
apex court. No one had so far come forward to support a common
candidature, mooted by the Janata Party, against Ms. Jayalalitha.
The Janata Party, Dr. Swamy said, would support good and clean
candidates, irrespective of party affiliations, in the
constituencies where it was not contesting. It however, would not
support BJP candidates. Dr Swamy said he would take up the matter
with the Election Commission the issue of the poll date
coinciding with the annual Chitrai festival in Madurai. He would
also demand that the EC declare Madurai as `disturbed area' and
post the CRPF for `bandobust'.
Seats shared with BFB
Meanwhile, the Janata Party and the Bharatiya Forward Bloc (BFB),
which have formed an alliance, have identified their
constituencies.According to a press release, a joint meeting held
in the presence of Dr. Swamy here today, also decided to allow
the BFB candidates to contest on `Chakra haldar' symbol of the
Janata Party.
The Janata Party would contest in 20 constituencies: Madurai
Central, West, East, Tirupparankundram, Melur, Samayanallur,
Sholavandan, Bodi, Theni, Tirupathur, Tiruchi-II, Thottiyam,
Pattukottai, Kumbakonam, Omalur, Udagamandalam, Karur,
Tirunelveli, Kadaladi and Periyakulam.
The BFB would field its nominees for five seats: Usilampatti,
Sedapatti, Tirumangalam, Athur and in any constituency where Dr.
Krishnaswamy of Pudiya Tamilagam contests.
