CPI(M) alleges plot to ignite trouble
By Our Special Correspondent
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, APRIL 6. The CPI(M) State secretary, Mr.
Pinarayi Vijayan, has alleged that a conspiracy is being hatched
by the UDF and the BJP-RSS combine to foment trouble in the State
on election-eve.
Mr. Vijayan told a press conference here today that the violence
in Kannur on Thursday was the result of this conspiracy and
accused the Kannur SP of having become a pawn in the hands of the
UDF-BJP combine. The conspiracy was to create the impression that
law and order in the State had collapsed and that polling would
not be peaceful in the State, he said.
Coming down heavily on the Kannur SP, Mr. Vijayan alleged that
the SP had launched an indiscriminate attack and firing on the
peace-loving people in the locality. One of the bullets scraped
past a woman who was standing in front of her home and hit the
wall. The police had opened fire even as people were running
helter-skelter following a lathicharge. The LDF Government,
completing five years in office, had come very close to being
accused of having shot a housewife dead, he pointed out.
