Another weaver commits suicide
By Our Staff Reporter
KARIMNAGAR, APRIL 6. Another powerloom weaver committed suicide
in the early hours of Friday by immolating himself with kerosene
at his residence in Gandhinagar of Sircilla town due to non-
availability of work and increasing debts.
Reports reaching here said that the weaver, Gajjele Vishwanatham
(45), resorted to this extreme step when his family members were
fast asleep outside the house. He is survived by wife, one
daughter and two sons. The Sircilla Padmashali Sangham has
donated Rs. 1,100 and a local councillor, Mr. R. Devadas, has
collected Rs. 750 as donations from the local residents to
perform the last rites of the weaver.
Meanwhile, Sircilla town observed a total bandh on a call given
by the Communist Party of India, with all shops, business
establishments, banks, post offices, insurance offices, cinema
halls, petrol-filling stations and others remaining closed. The
entire town has expressed its moral support to the weaving
community members who were resorting to suicide by closing down
their shutters voluntarily. However, educational institutions
functioned normally due to the ongoing examinations. The RTC also
operated its services as usual.
