ISRO to set GSLV relaunch date today

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, APRIL 6. The top brass of the Indian Space Research Organisation will meet in Bangalore tomorrow to set the fresh window period for the launch of the Geo-Synchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV D-1) from Sriharikota.

``The date will be finalised at Saturday's meeting,'' an ISRO spokesperson said and added that the final report on the problem which led to the aborted launch on March 28, will also feature in the deliberations.

The 49-metre, 401-tonne GSLV has been programmed to place its payload, a 1,540 kg experimental satellite, GSAT-1, in a Geo- synchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO), over the eastern part of Indonesia, just 17 minutes after take off.

The three-stage GSLV took ten years to build. The Rs. 1400-crore project, which also includes financial provisions for two more flights, is expected to enable India to place its INSAT class of satellites in orbit.
