Tourist flow on the rise

PONDICHERRY, APRIL 5. The Directorate of Tourism of Pondicherry Administration participated in travel and tourism fairs held in Mumbai and New Delhi as part of its strategy to promote tourism.

Many States and tourism operators, airline units and hoteliers were among the participants in the fairs. The stalls of Pondicherry Tourism were decorated excellently highlighting the French culture, a model of the war memorial, the miniature of Auroville and other features of Pondicherry.

A press communication from the Director of Tourism, Mr. G. Malarkannan, today said that a number of visitors expressed their appreciation of the features. The ``best decoration award'' was bagged by the Pondicherry pavilion. Artists from the Bharathiar Palkalaikoodam made the pavilion most appealing.

The Department had been winning awards in almost all domestic tourim fairs. Participation in international fairs had been a success for marketing tourism. The tourism department participated with the support of the Union Tourism Ministry, in fairs such as ITB Berlin, PATA Singapore and WTO London.

Tourist flow into Pondicherry had been steadily increasing at the rate of more than 16 per cent.
