Tourist flow on the rise
By Our Staff Reporter
PONDICHERRY, APRIL 5. The Directorate of Tourism of Pondicherry
Administration participated in travel and tourism fairs held in
Mumbai and New Delhi as part of its strategy to promote tourism.
Many States and tourism operators, airline units and hoteliers
were among the participants in the fairs. The stalls of
Pondicherry Tourism were decorated excellently highlighting the
French culture, a model of the war memorial, the miniature of
Auroville and other features of Pondicherry.
A press communication from the Director of Tourism, Mr. G.
Malarkannan, today said that a number of visitors expressed their
appreciation of the features. The ``best decoration award'' was
bagged by the Pondicherry pavilion. Artists from the Bharathiar
Palkalaikoodam made the pavilion most appealing.
The Department had been winning awards in almost all domestic
tourim fairs. Participation in international fairs had been a
success for marketing tourism. The tourism department
participated with the support of the Union Tourism Ministry, in
fairs such as ITB Berlin, PATA Singapore and WTO London.
Tourist flow into Pondicherry had been steadily increasing at the
rate of more than 16 per cent.
