Cong. aspirants petition TMC chief
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, APRIL 1. The ticket aspirants in the State Congress,
this time round, are not rushing to Delhi to petition the party
high command for seats. Instead, they have begun to make a
beeline for the TMC president, Mr. G. K. Moopanar's residence.
``Is Mr. Moopanar the high command for the State Congress?''
puzzled TMC men asked, as a stream of former Congress MLAs called
on the TMC chief at his residence today to seek their all-too-
precious seat.
With the Congress high command entrusting Mr. Moopanar with the
task of negotiating with the AIADMK on identifying the 15
constituencies the party would contest in the Assembly election,
the Congress functionaries are knocking at Mr. Moopanar's doors
for the constituencies of their choice.
The former Congress MLAs, including Mr. S. M. Krishnan, Mr. U.
Balaraman, Polur Varadan, Mrs. Zeenath Sherfuddin and Mrs.
Lokambal, were among the Congress functionaries who met Mr.
Moopanar today with their wish-lists.
However, prominent among the pack of visitors was the Congress
MP, Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyer, who has been opposed to Mr. Moopanar
for sometime now. Besides inviting Mr. Moopanar for his 60th
birth day celebrations, Mr. Mani Shankar Aiyer said he asked the
TMC chief to get either the Mannargudi or the Mayiladuthurai
constituency allotted to the Congress.
