First list of candidates soon: CM
By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, MARCH 28. The DMK's first list of candidates for the
Assembly elections will be released in another five days, the DMK
president and Chief Minister, Mr. M. Karunanidhi, today said.
Addressing a news conference at the party headquarters this
evening, Mr. Karunanidhi said though both the DMK and the BJP
were `satisfied' with the 21 constituencies allotted to the
latter, there could still be changes in one or two seats, as a
final picture will emerge, only after the constituency-
identification was completed for all the parties in the State
NDA.
The BJP leaders have urged that if there is a `ticklish
situation' with respect to one or two seats, it should be
reconsidered, Mr. Karunanidhi said, adding that the DMK had
replied that it was also open to such possibilities.
To a query, Mr. Karunanidhi said that the State Law Minister, Mr.
Aladi Aruna, would represent the DMK at the BJP's rally in
Tiruchi on April 2 to kick-start poll campaign.
Asked if the three constituencies earmarked for the TMC-
Democratic Forum recently floated by Mr. P. Chidambaram had been
finalised, Mr. Karunanidhi said the DMK had not yet again got in
touch with the outfit.
On the status of talks with the New Justice Party (NJP), Mr.
Karunanidhi said that yesterday, the NJP vice-president, Mr. J.
Sudhanendhen, had met him.
``I have nothing more to add on this and it is not desirable to
discuss other details through the media'', added the Chief
Minister.
The list of 10 constituencies finalised for the Puthiya
Tamizhagam will be announced, after seats were finalised with all
the other allies in the next two days, said Mr. Karunanidhi.
