Digvijay criticises BJP on Tehelka

By Our Staff Correspondent

BHOPAL, MARCH 28. The Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr. Digvijay Singh, today lambasted the BJP over the Tehelka expose and questioned the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee's credibility due to his failure to initiate action against politicians whose names figured in the tapes.

The Chief Minister was addressing a Youth Congress rally at the Madhya Pradesh Congress headquarters this afternoon. He said it is unfortunate that the former national president of the BJP, Mr. Bangaru Laxman, despite the audio-visual evidence against him, continues to go scot free.

Taking a dig at the Prime Minister, Mr. Singh said, Mr. Vajpayee had a clean image as long as he was the Opposition leader but his credibility has taken a nose-dive within two-and- half years of assuming office. The Congress has a glorious record of remaining in power at the Centre for more than four decades, he added. In sharp contrast, the nation has now witnessed on television the BJP president's shameful act of receiving bribe while Mr. Vajpayee heads the BJP-led coalition Government at the Centre, the Chief Minister said and asked ``Why has the Prime Minister failed to take action against anyone despite the expose relating to defence deals?''

Mr. Singh said that Mr. Vajpayee has always favoured action against those found guilty of corruption but now he is the one who is talking of a probe in an attempt to sweep under the carpet the biggest scandal since independence.
