One day poll likely for Assemblies
NEW DELHI, MARCH 28. The Election Commission is likely to
announce a one-day poll in early May to the Assemblies of Assam,
Kerala, West bengal, Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
The Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. M. S. Gill, who returned on
Tuesday night from a two-day trip to Tamil Nadu, presided over a
meeting, which was also attended by the Election Commissioners
Mr. J. M. Lyngdoh, and Mr. T. S. Krishnamurthy, and the Deputy
Election Commissioners, Mr. Subhas Pani and Mr.Sayan Chatterjee,
EC sources told UNI. The meeting also reviewed the status of
issue of photo identity cards to voters in these States. The use
of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMS) also figured in the
discussions, the sources said.
