'BJP men behind Tehelka expose'
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, MARCH 28. The Congress MP, Mr. Eduardo Faleiro, today
said by suspending the Home Ministry Director, Mr. Thomas Mathew,
in connection with the Tehelka expose, the Government was going
to ``absurd lengths'' to cover up the disclosures and conspiracy
behind it.
In a statement here, Mr. Faleiro, demanded that the Government
state its policy towards implementation and enforcement of Civil
Services Rules without any ``bias or discrimination''. The rules
were broken with impunity by several officers, including the Home
Minister, who attended RSS camps during the last two years.
He said, senior scientists, academics and other government
servants too participated in functions where awards were given to
them by RSS organisations. ``Why no action is taken against them
but only comparative junior officers like Mr. Mathew are
penalised?'' Referring to the Tehelka tapes, Mr. Faleiro said as
per available indications, they were the result of a conspiracy
by a section of the ruling party dissatisfied with the present
regime.
``Any impartial enquiry, judicial or otherwise, will confirm
this,'' he said adding that such a probe should examine the nexus
between the disclosures in the Tehelka tapes and the income tax
raids last July at the residence of former Samata Party
president, Ms. Jaya Jaitly, ostensibly in connection with the
match-fixing scandal but which were aborted on instructions
``from above''.
