Pondy Cong. chief's stand questioned

By Our Staff Reporter

PONDICHERRY, MARCH 26. The stand of the Mr. V. Narayanaswamy, Congress president in Pondicherry, that there would be no room for the PMK as a ministerial partner if a secular front came to power after the coming poll, was criticised by a section of partymen as being `unpractical and running counter to the purpose of forming such a front.' When the Congress, the AIADMK, the TMC, the PMK and the communist parties had finalised a front in Tamil Nadu how could Pondicherry have a different pattern of alliance, they asked.

The arbitrary stand of their party chief, taken without ascertaining the views of all functionaries, would only bring about a situation from which the DMK would gain.

A local committee of all constituents of the secular front should be set up to decide the issue. `` We are not toeing the line of Mr. Narayanaswamy,'' they said.

PMK leader's warning

Meanwhile, the president of the Pondicherry State unit of the PMK, said here on Sunday, in the presence of PMK founder Mr. S. Ramadoss, that the Congress should not procrastinate further in announcing its alliance with the PMK in the Union Territory for the poll. Should there be any delay, the PMK would go ahead with its ally the AIADMK, abandoning the Congress, he said.

Welcoming volunteers who joined the party Dr. Ramadoss said they should strive to ensure the installation of the PMK in power so that several welfare measures could be evolved and implemented.
