'Look out' notice issued to arrest kidnapper

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, MARCH 26. The city police have issued a ``look out'' notice for the accused involved in the kidnapping of a three-year old child, Kiran Kumar from Sembium.

The accused, a cook, later identified as Rajesh Khanna had escaped on March 20 with his employer's son on the pretext of buying chocolates. Though, he had joined as a cook under false name and particulars, police managed to establish his identity based on a telephone call that he made from an STD booth.

Police traced the number to a hotel in Thanjavur and investigation showed that the culprit was a criminal and had been evading arrest.

Investigation revealed that, Rajesh Khanna was charged with the murder of the daughter of a mirasdar while studying in school at the age of 15, in 1984. The girl was stabbed when she chided him after he teased her.

Rajesh was sent to the correctional school at Tataparai in Tuticorin and later shifted to Chengalpattu. He escaped from the school in 1988 and settled with his parents in Tirupathi.

At Tirupathi, a few years later, he was arrested on charges of attacking his wife and child. Later, he jumped bail and settled in Madurai and started working in a hotel.

He married again while at Madurai and allegedly tortured his wife and stabbed her brother who questioned his behaviour. He was arrested by the Madurai police and was taken into custody by the Tirupathi police in connection with the earlier cases and had escaped from their custody too.

Meanwhile, the city police have formed six special teams, which have been sent to different parts of the State and also neighbouring areas in hunt of the cook.

The police have urged the public to alert the following numbers if they have any information about the culprit, or spot the kidnapped child.

City traffic control room (100, 8555069), Sembium Police Station (5571298), Sembium ACP (6423753), DCP Anna Nagar (6215135) and ACP Crime Sembium (6425831).
