Two killed as car catches fire

NAMAKKAL, MARCH 26. Two passengers of a private car were burnt alive when the vehicle and a truck collided at Valayakaranur near Komarapalayam in the wee hours of Monday. Mr. Rafiq (20) of Kottakombai in Udhagamandalam at the wheel, Mr. Paul Raj (39) of Coonoor and Mr. Mohammad Thamin (40) of Saibaba Colony in Coimbatore, were travelling in the car.

In the collision, the petrol tank of the car caught fire and burst, engulfing the occupants in the inferno. Both Mr. Rafiq and Mr. Paul Raj were caught in the fire and died on the spot. However, Mr. Mohammad Thamin escaped with minor injuries, as he was thrown out of the vehicle in the impact.The police have arrested the truck driver Sivakumar.
