No cricketing ties with India: Gen. Zia
By Rizwan Ehsan Ali
ISLAMABAD, MARCH 25. Pakistan cricket supremo Lt. Gen. Tauqir Zia
wants ``no cricketing ties with India in future'' after the
Indian government refused to give permission to its cricket team
for the next month's triangular series in Sharjah on Sunday. ``We
would not like to play against India anywhere after this
development,'' Zia said.
Gen. Zia criticised both the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and the
International Cricket Council (ICC) for not taking any action
against India.
``ACC should seize to exist,'' the General said, clearly hinting
that there was no need for an Asian body after two of it's main
members India and Pakistan do not compete against each other.
Zia is the chairman of the ACC, but said that he would not be
presiding over the next meeting of the council in Sharjah on
April 15. ``This is for sure, there is no use. I would not chair
the meeting in Sharjah.''
The general said that ICC should exert its authority like FIFA
does for football. ``ICC should follow the footsteps of FIFA. It
is compulsory for all the soccer teams in the world to compete
against each. So why can't ICC do the same? It (ICC) should be
strong enough to react,'' he said.
However, the PCB boss said that Pakistan would certainly compete
in the Sharjah tournament. He said, ``we have committed to send
out team.''
