By Our Special Correspondent
CHENNAI, MARCH 25. Mr. Justice K. Venkataswami, who will head the
inquiry commission to probe the allegations of bribery in defence
deals, as revealed in the Tehelka tapes, hopes to begin work
later this week.
The retired Judge, who at present chairs the Railway Rates
Tribunal in Chennai, said he was expecting the formal appointment
notification, as well as the terms of reference for inquiry.
``Perhaps they are in transit''. He said he proposed to travel to
Delhi on Thursday to have a preliminary discussion with officials
to work out the modalities of starting the work and locating the
office of the panel.
He hoped to complete the work in the stipulated four months. Mr.
Justice Venkataswami was Judge of the Madras High Court for 11
years before he moved to the Patna High Court in 1994 as Chief
Justice. He was Judge of the Supreme Court between 1995 and 1999.
