Cong. to take suspension issue to the streets
By Our Special Correspondent
AHMEDABAD, MARCH. 24. The Gujarat Congress has decided to take to
the streets the issue of suspension of the entire Opposition in
the state Assembly by organising agitational programmes along
with demanding the resignation of the Atal Behari Vajpayee
ministry ``exposed'' by the Tehelka.com.
A meeting of the Congress district unit presidents, the district
panchayat presidents and other senior leaders here today chalked
out agitational programmes beginning from March 27 to ``expose''
before the people the ``undemocratic'' BJP government in the
State and demand dismissal of the Keshubhai Patel ministry.
According to the leader of the opposition in the State Assembly,
Mr. Amarsinh Chaudhary, whose suspension on grounds of
``unfounded allegations'' against some BJP ministers and other
leaders led to vandalism and subsequent suspension of all the
Congress MLAs for the remaining period of the current budget
session, the party would take out a rally in Gandhinagar on
Tuesday and submit a memorandum to the Governor, Mr. Sunder Singh
Bhandari, demanding its dismissal.
The next day the party would organise a ``parallel'' State
Assembly at a public place in Ahmedabad and ``expose'' the
``corrupt and undemocratic'' Patel ministry. From March 31 to
April 10, the State party, in response to the call of the
national president, Ms. Sonia Gandhi, would organise processions,
meetings, rallies and other programmes at different district and
taluk headquarters, except the earthquake-hit Kutch district, and
submit memoranda to the district collectors and other officials
demanding resignation of the Vajpayee ministry and highlight the
local issues including the ``failures'' of the Patel ministry to
provide relief to the earthquake and drought-affected people. It
would be followed by a massive rally here on April 11 which was
expected to be attended by Ms. Gandhi and other senior central
leaders.
The Congress legislature party secretary, Mr. Udeysinh Baria,
claimed that the suspension of the Congress members was a ``pre-
planned'' move of the ruling party to ensure passage of some
controversial bills which ``smacked of corruption'' without any
discussion.
