CeBit to go places
By K. T. Jagannathan
HANNOVER, MARCH 24. CeBit, confined to Hannover in Germany, will
go places henceforth. Close on the heels of a successful
organisation of a mini CeBit fair at Istanbul in Turkey, China
will be hosting, for the first time in August, the Asian edition
of CeBit at Shanghai. Hereafter, the Cebit fair at Shanghai will
be a regular annual event like the one at Hannover.
Mr. Detlev Rossa, senior official of Deutche Messe AG, the
organiser of the biggest IT show, said the ultimate objective was
to have one CeBit edition in each continent every year. The move
to take CeBit across the globe stems from the realisation that
Hannover could yet remain a distant dream for many a company and
visitor in distant lands either due to monetary consideration or
because of an assorted other factors. Taking CeBit across
continents would help facilitate reaching out to new targets in
terms of exhibitors and visitors, he added.
Mr. Rossa was convinced that the proposed satellite CeBit fairs
would provide right platforms for the Europeans and other firms
to access the newest and fast-growing markets elsewhere in the
globe. Like in Turkey, in China too the CeBit organisers will
team up with a local player to put up the fair. Deutche Messe is
contemplating mini CeBit fairs in Australia and Brazil in South
America.
Mr. Rossa said a lot of top management groups from global
companies would still continue to make a beeline for Hannover
every year. All CeBit editions, wherever they are held, would
conform to the top technical and quality standards of the main
Hannover event.
