Mill workers held
PONDICHERRY, MARCH 24. Scores of workers of the NTC-run Swadeshi
Cotton mills were arrested today when they allegedly gheraoed
mill officials, demanding a tribunal to finalise higher wages for
workers.
A communication from the CITU assistant secretary, Mr. S.
Sivakumar, said leaders belonging to various unions were
arrested. He said while the Pondicherry Administration had set up
Special Industries Tribunal separately for the AFT and spinning
mills nothing had been done to help the workers of the Bharathi
and Swadeshi mills.
