Journalist attacked
By Our Special Correspondent
MUMBAI, MARCH 24. Journalist V. Gangadhar was beaten up by
activists, said to be of the Arya Samaj, near his home here late
last night after he asked them to switch off their public address
system.
Mr. Gangadhar said that the Arya Samaj was conducting a religious
programme for the past four days, and the continuous use of the
microphone disturbed children preparing for their examinations
and also old and sick persons in the locality.
The activists abused the journalist and started beating him. He
was taken to a nearby police post where the constables, instead
of helping him, took the side of the activists. But some senior
officials present at the post took him to a police station, where
his complaint was registered.
Mr. Gangadhar said that he was badly bruised and suffered a cut
on his lips. He was examined at a civic hospital.
