Conspiracy will be unravelled: Fernandes
NEW DELHI, MARCH 24. The former Defence Minister, Mr. George
Fernandes, has alleged that the Tehelka expose is a
``conspiracy'' and those behind this will be unmasked as such
things can never remain secret.
``Isme kin kin logon ki kya saazish hai, woh samay zaroor bata
dega. Yeh cheezein chipi nahi rah sakti (time will definitely
tell who are behind this conspiracy. Such things can never remain
secret),'' he told Star TV for its `Janata Ki Adalat'' programme.
From the time he declared that middlemen and arms dealers would
not be allowed inside his Ministry, he knew such a thing would
happen some day, a press release from the network quoted Mr.
Fernandes as saying.
Seeking to defend the BJP, he said, ``Ek vyakti ne paap kiya to
iska matlab yeh nahin ki poori party ne paap kiya (one man
committing a sin does not mean the whole party has sinned).''
On Ms. Jaya Jaitly, who resigned as Samata Party president in the
wake of the Tehelka expose, Mr. Fernandes said there could be no
bigger injustice than dragging her name into the controversy
adding that she did not discuss defence deals. Admitting that
appointing Mr. R. K. Jain as party treasurer, was a mistake, he
said ``we are not into investigating what each person is doing.
Had we known that he is such type of person, he would not have
been appointed.''
He said if the intention of the news portal was to clean up and
improve the system, the entire 100-hour recording should be made
public because no one would believe that the men in the Ministry
of Defence, whether in uniform or civilians, were corrupt.
